Linseed oil varnish with siccatives
Application:
On wood as an impregnation in interior areas.
Coat raw wood or wood primed with hardened linseed oil until saturation is reached. Wipe off excess oil and shiny areas with a clean cloth.
Drying time up to 24 hours
Linseed oil varnish hardens through an oxidative polymerisation process in which linoxin is formed. The oxidation is accelerated by the added siccatives.
Linoxin is water-repellent, open to diffusion and permanently elastic, but tends to yellow.
By adding balsamic turpentine oil up to a mixing ratio of 1:1 the linseed oil varnish is diluted to ‘half oil’ and penetrates deeper into the wood.
CAUTION: Self-ignition possible with e.g.
oil-soaked cloths etc. may only be stored in closed metal metal buckets or dried or burnt under supervision.
Linseed oil varnish is the natural binder of oil colours. Linseed oil varnish can be mixed with linseed oil pigment pastes to make spreadable linseed oil paint.
